Troubleshooting

The data seems incorrect or delayed

The data seems incorrect or delayed

If you're seeing data that appears wrong or delayed, here's how to troubleshoot:

Common Causes

1. Market Hours

Stock data only updates during market hours:

  • US Markets: 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM Eastern Time
  • Pre/Post Market: Limited data available
  • Weekends/Holidays: Data shows last trading day's values

2. Data Delay

Standard data has a 15-20 minute delay unless you have:

  • Signed exchange agreements for real-time data
  • A professional data subscription

3. Stale Data

Your spreadsheet may need refreshing:

  1. Click Refresh All in the MarketXLS menu
  2. Or press Ctrl + Alt + F5

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Verify the Ticker Symbol

  • Make sure you're using the correct symbol
  • Some symbols vary by exchange (e.g., BRK.A vs BRK-A)
  • Test with a common ticker like "AAPL" or "MSFT"

Step 2: Check the Function

Verify your function syntax:

=qm_last("AAPL") // Correct
=qm_last(AAPL) // Wrong - missing quotes
=qm_last("aapl") // Works - case insensitive

Step 3: Refresh the Data

  1. Go to MarketXLS menu
  2. Click Refresh All
  3. Wait a few seconds for data to load

Step 4: Check Internet Connection

Real-time data requires a stable internet connection. Try:

  • Opening a webpage to verify connectivity
  • Restarting your router if needed

Step 5: Verify QuoteMedia Connection

  1. Go to MarketXLS > Settings
  2. Check QuoteMedia status
  3. Click Test Connection

Reporting Data Issues

If data is consistently incorrect, please email support@marketxls.com with:

  • The ticker symbol
  • The function you're using
  • What value you're seeing
  • What value you expected (and source)
