Is there a limit on the number of stocks I can input in MarketXLS?
Is there a limit on the number of stocks I can input in MarketXLS?
The short answer is: There's no hard limit on the number of stocks, but there are practical considerations to keep in mind.
Practical Limits
Excel Performance
- Excel can handle thousands of MarketXLS functions
- However, very large spreadsheets may slow down refresh times
- We recommend keeping real-time data functions under 500-1000 per sheet for optimal performance
API Usage
- MarketXLS uses API calls to fetch data
- Your subscription plan determines your daily API call limit
- Each cell with a MarketXLS function counts as one or more API calls
Subscription Plan Limits
| Plan | Daily API Calls | Recommended Stocks |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | 5,000 | Up to 200 |
| Pro | 25,000 | Up to 1,000 |
| Enterprise | Unlimited | Unlimited |
Tips for Large Portfolios
- Use batch functions where possible (they're more efficient)
- Disable auto-refresh and refresh manually when needed
- Split large portfolios across multiple sheets
- Use caching - MarketXLS caches data to reduce API calls
